Dangerous Game

Big game hunting epitomizes a hegemonic masculinity rooted in narratives of human supremacy, colonial conquest, and performative ‘manhood’. During pregnancy I became both viscerally aware of my own animality and, after finding a discarded Big Game Hunter magazine at a bus stop, unexpectedly fascinated with sport hunting mags. Dangerous Game is a small series of self portraits collaging imagery from Big Game Hunter magazine with photos of my pregnant body, cross-referencing big game hunting and heteronormative tropes around gender, family making and reproductive labour.
